SOMA Breath Sessions
SOMA Breath Sessions
Experience a powerful, ancient yogic breathwork technique designed to support your body’s natural return to balance, clarity and harmony.
By gently shifting the nervous system from a stress-driven sympathetic state into a parasympathetic state of rest and regulation, SOMA Breath enables the body’s innate ability to rebalance itself. This shift is commonly associate with reduced stress and inflammation, improved mental clarity, a calmer emotional state, and a deeper sense of grounding and presence.
These state changes are facilitated through responsibly guided breathwork techniques, with a particular emphasis on extended exhalation, which permits the activation of the vagus nerve and the body’s rebalancing response.
SOMA Breath uniquely combines three modalities: music, breathwork and visualisation, to create a guided, science-supported state-change experience. Rather than forcing change, SOMA Breath focuses on shifting your internal state to allow the body and mind to naturally readjust to it.
A shift from stress and tension into calm and ease
Enhanced mental clarity and reduced mental noise
Emotional grounding and nervous system balance
A deeper sense of presence and connection to the body
SOMA Breath works by incorporating rhythmic breathing patterns to instigate a physiological state change in the body. Whether that be from stress to rest, or rest to energy, the practice can be adapted to the situation to support a desired outcome.
When breathing rhythmically, the body’s natural biorhythms (circadian, infradian, and ultradian) begin to align and harmonise. This alignment produces an effect known as heart coherence, where heart rate variability becomes more rhythmical and blood flow between the heart and brain is optimised. In this state, the body is working at its most efficient level for the condition it is in and, with sustained practice, can improve heart rate variability, support healthy blood pressure, and positively influence many other bodily functions.
Simultaneously, rhythmical breathing stimulates the production of what SOMA Breath instructors and affiliates refer to as a DOSE of Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins. This internal chemical environment offers optimal conditions for neurogenesis which is the formation of new neural pathways in the brain. In simple terms, this supports the brain’s ability to loosen deeply ingrained behavioural and emotional patterns and establish new ones.
This process works in both directions, as habits can be either supportive or detrimental. Within SOMA Breath sessions, however, intention, awareness, and guided practice are used to consciously influence this process, helping practitioners reinforce positive patterns and reduce the hold of unhelpful ones. Over time, this can lead to meaningful and lasting changes in how a person thinks, feels, and responds to their life.
When combined with specially designed trypnaural music, SOMA Breath can influence brain chemistry very quickly when paired with rhythmic breathing, often within minutes. The music also supports shifts in brainwave activity as practitioners enter deeper states of relaxation throughout the session.
Studies referenced within the SOMA Breath framework have observed transitions from normal waking consciousness (beta brainwaves) into calmer, more optimal flow states such as alpha, and in some cases theta which is a light meditative state. These states are associated with improved focus, creativity, and emotional regulation. Remaining in high beta brainwave activity for prolonged periods is linked with chronic stress, overthinking, and mental fatigue, so learning to access these calmer states can be profoundly supportive for long-term brain and nervous system health. With continued practice, practitioners often find they can access these optimal states more readily in daily life.
Different breathing patterns within SOMA Breath elicit different physiological responses. An extended exhalation rhythm stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for the body’s “rest and digest” response. In this state, the body enters a stress-reduced environment where regulation, repair, and self-healing processes can occur more efficiently, helping to break cycles of chronic stress. Other breathing patterns, such as equal inhalation and exhalation, are used to support heart coherence and access the alpha flow state.
Alongside breathwork and music, the final component of SOMA Breath is visualisation. This mental practice supports emotional regulation, creativity, and intentional focus by stimulating the often-underused right hemisphere of the brain. With sustained practice, visualisation becomes clearer, faster, and more effective, allowing individuals to consciously influence their internal state and the direction of their lives.
The founder of SOMA Breath, Niraj Naik, used these combined practices to heal himself from a severe autoimmune condition after being told he would likely live with it for the rest of his life. His recovery, alongside the life he went on to create for himself and his family, forms the foundation of SOMA Breath and demonstrates the profound capacity the human body and mind have for change when given the right conditions.

A SOMA Breath session is a guided experience designed to support a gentle shift in your internal state while keeping you present, supported, and at ease throughout.
Each session begins with a brief introduction and grounding phase. This allows you to settle into the space, connect with your body, and arrive mentally before the breathwork begins. You will be guided clearly and calmly so there is no pressure to perform or do anything perfectly.
The breathwork itself is introduced gradually. You are guided through specific rhythmic breathing patterns that are paired with carefully selected music. The rhythm of the breath and the music work together to support changes in physiology, nervous system activity, and mental state. Guidance is given throughout so you always know what to do and when to do it.
As the session progresses, many people notice sensations such as warmth, tingling, emotional release, mental quiet, or a sense of expansion and presence. These experiences vary from person to person and from session to session. There is no expected outcome and no right way to experience the practice.
Alongside the breath and music, visualisation is gently introduced. This is used as a tool for directing attention, regulating emotion, and supporting intentional change. You are guided clearly, but always encouraged to work within your own comfort and imagination.
Periods of rest and integration are woven into the session. These moments allow the nervous system to settle and the effects of the practice to be absorbed. Many people experience a sense of calm, clarity, and grounded awareness during this time.
Sessions close gently, allowing you to return at your own pace. You are given time to reconnect with your surroundings and your body before moving on with your day. After a session, it is common to feel more settled, present, and mentally clear, though experiences can vary.
At Ganesha Retreats, SOMA Breath sessions are guided with care, responsibility, and accessibility in mind. Our role is to hold a supportive structure so you can simply follow the guidance and experience the practice without strain or uncertainty.
Whether you are completely new to breathwork or returning to the practice, you are supported throughout the entire session.
At Ganesha Retreats, SOMA Breath is offered in several formats to support different needs, schedules, and preferences. Each session is guided with the same care, responsibility, and attention to nervous system safety, regardless of the setting.
Online SOMA Breath sessions are live guided experiences that allow you to practice from the comfort of your own space. These sessions follow the same structured approach as in person sessions, with clear guidance, music, and breathing patterns delivered in real time.
Online sessions are suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. You are supported throughout the session and encouraged to work within your own limits and environment. This format is well suited to those seeking consistency, routine, and access to guided breathwork without the need to travel.
In person SOMA Breath sessions offer the opportunity to practice within a shared physical space, supported by direct guidance and presence.
One to one sessions provide a more personalised experience, allowing the session to unfold at a pace that feels appropriate for the individual. These sessions are guided with sensitivity and attention, making them suitable for those seeking focused support.
Group sessions bring people together in a shared practice. The structure remains clear and guided, while the group setting allows for a sense of connection and collective presence. Each participant is encouraged to remain attuned to their own experience throughout.
Alongside regular sessions, Ganesha Retreats also offers special and seasonal SOMA Breath experiences. These may include studio based sessions, collaborations with local spaces, and retreat settings.
As these offerings evolve, updates are shared through our blog so you can stay informed about upcoming sessions and opportunities to practice.

We have a complete mind-to-heart journey where we move from root to heart to crown chakra. Find out more about this healing journey.
Root Chakra provides strong grounding energy and supports letting go of what does not serve you. Here, you can truly ground yourself, connect with the earth and set your intention to release what has been holding you back.
Heart chakra energy is perfectly balanced on the zero point (between positive and negative) and therefore allows you to find your own inner purpose and enables you to set intentions that truly resonate with your needs.
As the highest chakra, crown allows for the experience of true connection to your true self and enables you to feel the true state of heart centred presence and the peace that that brings.
Mind to heart through art. This course uses art and nature immersion to fully connect you to your true present self by completely connecting you to the present moment through creating nature-based art. We have found that the art pieces created often point to areas in your life that are holding you back or you feel you may be stuck. In doing this, our mind to-heart, forest art course boosts problem solving by 50% and productivity by 15-20%. No skill or experience is required as our resident artist shows you how.
This 1-day immersive retreat in our 25-acre ancient woodland sanctuary enables you to reconnect with the truest parts of yourself through women-only groups. It is designed to support rediscovering your natural rhythms, emotional depth, and personal strength – guided by the wisdom of the forest. We focus on breath-work, somatic movement, seasonal themes and intentional quiet time in a high-energy environment.
The lunar cycle plays a huge role in influencing our mental state and personal development, with full moons bringing the end to a lesson. In this way, the energy in the woodland is very high during full, quarter and new moons and so we offer these respective experiences to immerse yourself completely in the high healing energy of the woodland at these times. These experiences come as overnight stays which are best experienced from our tree- hung, flat-bottomed hammocks which are set at our heart chakra camp where the energy is perfectly neutrally balanced, and we also have wooden cabins and bell tents available. From these experiences, you may release stresses or trapped emotions because these times of the lunar cycle are ideal for enabling you to heal and set clear intentions to carry out throughout the next lunar cycle.
